I decided to use light boxes as with them you would still be able to see the photos in the dark. Although I also feel that my light boxes are very conceptual. I have been looking into the fact that sleeping is a private personal thing. And quite often when we are with someone we don't know that well, or are in an unfamiliar place its harder for us to sleep. I feel like the light boxes are very voyeuristic, its peeping and looking into something private, someone else's space. And so by using these I wanted to convey the feeling of privacy. I also like the fact that the viewer is restricted to that view they cannot pick up the photo and inspect it closely, they are only able to see a limited view of that person.
I came across a problem with my led lights, as they were too bright, spots kept being reflected onto the polaroid photo. And so I have used coloured tissue paper to dull the brightness, and also created a nice effect.
I had the idea of using magnifying paper inside my light boxes, so that you would be able to see a zoomed in image of the polaroid. Yet after trying it out I decided it didn't work. The magnifying paper itself had lines across it, making it hard to clearly see the image, and so I felt seeing a small bit of the image clearly was more important that being able to see details of the photo not so clearly.
I decided to use 10 light boxes for my final piece. I wanted it to be enough to look at but at the same time, not too much. I am going to have 5 on each wall, evenly spread out so that people will walk up to them and look inside.
