I chose to look at the words
tight and intimate for my sculpture and I started off with the idea that I wanted
to use wool dipped in plaster and wire and somehow intertwine them to create a
complicated pattern. I had several constraints with this and decided to just
use the wool and no wire; I used a hot glue gun and just glued the wool
together at one point. As my sculpture was abstract and so did not really look
like anything I decided to look at Annie Cattrell and Gunther Von Hagen and
tried to make it look like a pair of lungs but I could not shape the wool. I
then decided to just create the shape I wanted using wire and I still had to
create something tight and intimate, and so I decided to use my hot glue gun
and create little overlapping line of glue across the wire. Both my pieces are
not that interesting in person, yet when I started to play around with light
and shadows, looking at Christian Boltanski both became so much more interesting.
I decided that my final piece would be a video of my second sculpture in which I
use two light sources and a flash, make the viewer have a lot to look at.
